Social means community, and community means strength. When brands unite a body of like-minded thought-leaders, entrepreneurs and sustainability ambassadors, their social strategy has the power to inspire and engage even the hardest-to-reach audiences. The key is to blend authenticity and transparency with education.

We’ve seen firsthand how powerful social media can be in shaping the sustainability narrative, particularly when working closely with Peach 20/20 and covering their event content for Planet Peach 2025.

Walk your talk…

When brands use behind-the-scenes content to showcase their sustainable practices, like processes, sourcing or recycling initiatives, consumers are taken on an emotional journey. We only have to look at the negative effects of greenwashing to know that authenticity and, more importantly, evidence, are the key to building trust with your audience. Infographics, for example, are a helpful way of simplifying complex information with clear facts and figures.

Engage all stakeholders

Feature employees, suppliers, customers and communities, and let them tell their story of how they’re impacted by sustainability efforts. Brands can build rapport with their audiences on platforms like Instagram by running polls that aim to bridge the educational gap. Activities like these help inspire people to engage with future campaigns, think recycling programmes or net-zero initiatives. Behavioural science tells us we’re more likely to value something we already own or are part of. Community matters.

Create purpose-driven campaigns

Utilise awareness days such as World Earth Day, or lead your own sustainable consumption initiatives. Second-Hand September is a great example. These moments give your audience actionable steps to engage with and, in turn, give your brand greater credibility. This strengthens word-of-mouth marketing, especially when paired with trusted NGO partners or reputable influencers in the sustainability space.

Keep it consistent

Your brand’s sustainability messaging should adapt to the strengths of each platform. Instagram lends itself well to visual storytelling and bite-sized infographics. TikTok? That’s your space for relatable, informal (and yes, even humorous) sustainability content. LinkedIn thrives on thought leadership, while X can be your go-to for updates, report links and live conversations.

Social meets strategy

Last month, at Extract Coffee Roasters, Women In The Food Industry hosted a panel exploring what it really takes to become a B Corp. Not a checklist or a badge, but a shift in how we lead, build teams and make decisions.

One message from Ceri Gott, Culture & Leadership Coach (previously Hawksmoor), really stuck with us:

“Get people to do less, not more.”

A simple but powerful reminder that impact comes from focus.
